Angels Baseball Featured in ‘Best International Pow Wow Host City’ Travel Article
ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 3, 2008) – Anaheim's Major League Baseball team, the Angels, were featured in a travel article that was recognized as the best in the world, at the first annual Discover America Travel Writers Awards. The award in the category, 'Best International Pow Wow Host City,' was announced before a group of international media at the recent Travel Industry Association's 2008 International Pow Wow travel trade show in Las Vegas.
The winning article, ‘Anaheim Angels: Sieg im Ballpark (Victory in ballpark),' by Axel Pinck, a Hamburg-based travel writer, appeared in the February 2008 issue of HB Bildatlas Kalifornien, a publication in Germany that is circulated throughout German-speaking countries with a monthly circulation of approximately 30,000 readers. Researched while attending the 2007 Pow Wow in Anaheim, Pinck chose to write about baseball because of its unfamiliarity in German-speaking countries. Pinck wrote the article in an interview format with Angels hitting coach, Mickey Hatcher and also includes a short talk with Team Manager, Mike Scioscia. The article looks at several facets of the game, from the atmosphere of the ballpark, to the long season, social engagements, family life, as well as controversial issues facing the sport.
When Pinck became aware that he had won the award he said that he was “deeply astonished” and “deeply honored.”
Upon learning of the winning article, Elaine Cali, vice president of communications, Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau said, 'We'd like to congratulate Axel on receiving this award, which helps elevate Anaheim's international professional sports identity.”
“Anaheim has world-class professional sports teams and we’re very pleased that Mr. Pinck chose to feature the Angels,” she added.
