IMPACT Melanoma’s Practice Safe Skin Dispensers to be Located Throughout the Center

(ANAHEIM, CA) – Anaheim GardenWalk announced today that it will become the first Orange County shopping center to provide FREE public sunscreen. In conjunction with IMPACT Melanoma (formerly Melanoma Foundation of New England), a non-profit aimed at providing education, prevention, and support for the most serious form of skin cancer, Anaheim GardenWalk has installed sunscreen dispensers at the center.

This initiative is part of Practice Safe Skin, a program by IMPACT Melanoma that offers sunscreen as an effective preventive measure to help avoid sun over-exposure year-round. A recent study from The University of Colorado cited Practice Safe Skin as an influencing force behind the decrease in melanoma rates in the Northeast. Melanoma is rising faster than any other cancer with one person every 50 minutes dying from the disease. Studies show that with daily sunscreen protection, the risk of melanoma is preventable. Each sunscreen dispenser is equipped with four 1000 mL bags of sunscreen and contains an all-natural blend of 6% zinc and 6% titanium SPF-30 sunscreen, safe for people aged six-months and up. Ingredients are printed on the machines. The sunscreen dispensers will be located on the Main Level – Kate & Ella Court, on the Main Level – The Oasis, on the Main Level – Near Billy Beez and on the Upper Level – Near House of Blues Anaheim.

“We are thrilled to offer complimentary sunscreen for our guests, and participate in the Practice Safe Skin program to help the community to avoid sun over-exposure and educate them about the importance of using sunscreen all year long,” said Robin Weeks-Wynne, Senior Director, Marketing & Tourism, Anaheim GardenWalk. “We hope our contribution will help sunscreen dispensers become as commonplace as hand sanitizers over the next few years.”

About Practice Safe Skin: In response to the Surgeon General’s 2014 Call to Action to address skin cancer as a major public concern, IMPACT Melanoma and partner Bright Guard, launched a pilot program called Practice Safe Skin during the summer 2015 to donate free sunscreen throughout Boston parks and Massachusetts beaches at no cost to taxpayers.  Following the success of the pilot program, the Practice Safe Skin initiative is expanding to offer cities and businesses across the country the ability to purchase and provide this public safety program. For more information or to inquire about pricing, see http://IMPACTMelanoma.org/practice-safe-skin/, call 1-800-557-6352 or email info@IMPACTMelanoma.org.
